The Convention Center at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino played host to its traditional opening event Wednesday, as the first day of the two-day $565 Casino Employees Event kicked off. However, the 2018 WSOP’s new single-day $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty event also began, playing down to a winner in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The first open event of the series featured a turbo structure with 20-minute blind levels and a $3,000 bounty on the head of each and every player.

Late registration was open through the first 12 levels. By the time it was through, the event drew 243 total entries, creating a prize pool of $1,555,200 that would pay the top 36 finishers. A min-cash was worth $10,192, plus all $3,000 bounties collected. The winner was set to earn $393,693 and any bounties they managed to collect as well.

World Poker Tour Move To Las Vegas Esports Arena Could Spark Player Revolt

Perhaps the World Poker Tour was just putting the idea out there. Maybe they just wanted to see how players would react to the idea of delaying all its televised final tables next season before moving them to Esports Arena Las Vegas. If so, there’s still time to nix the plan.

However, if it’s a plan the WPT is married to, they’ve a got a public relations nightmare on their hands. One that may soon turn into a full-fledged revolt.

Reaction from tour regulars has been decidedly negative. The overwhelming sentiment appears to be asking players who make a final table to make a trip out to Las Vegas several weeks later to finish it up will deter recreational players, foreigners and pros with lives outside of poker from playing WPT events altogether.

World Poker Tour Moves All Televised Final Tables To Las Vegas In Season XVII

Season XVII of the World Poker Tour is going to look like no season ever before it. As part of the WPT’s partnership with Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor Casino & Hotel, all televised final tables are moving to the original home of the World Poker Tour.

According to WPT CEO Adam Pliska and Director of Tour Management Angelica Hael, the number of final tables taking place at Esports Arena Las Vegas is nine: eight Main Tour events, plus the season-ending Tournament of Champions.

These events were not formally confirmed by the WPT at Saturday’s media summit at Luxor. All properties who are in line to have their final tables hosted at Esports Arena Las Vegas are pending state and Nevada Gaming License approval.

After final tables are reached, tournaments will be placed on a hiatus between the end of play at the host property and the final table in Las Vegas. The estimate is three to six weeks between play. Per the WPT, the goal is to have spans of final tables play out consecutively over a single week.

Seven Years Later, Chris Ferguson Finally Makes Black Friday Statement

While it will likely come off as years too late and millions of dollars too short for most, Full Tilt Poker founder and board member Chris Ferguson finally decided to make a statement to the poker community regarding Black Friday this week.

In a 42 second video posted on Vimeo.com May 23, Ferguson stopped short of apologizing or taking any responsibility for his role in the Full Tilt/Black Friday scandal. The one that effectively shut down online poker in the US and left thousands of US players out of pocket millions of dollars. However, he did express regret for not being able to prevent it from happening. Ferguson also apologized that it took so long for so many players to get paid back:

“Hi, it’s Chris Ferguson. I’d like to take this brief opportunity to address the poker community, which I love, and have been part of for a long time. I deeply regret not being able to prevent Black Friday from happening. After Black Friday, I worked relentlessly to ensure that all players got paid back. And, I sincerely apologize that it took as long as it did.”

Two Men accused of Robbing and Shooting Player at Texas Poker Room

There were two people arrested in the case of a poker player who got robbed and shot as he was going out of a poker room in northwest Austin, Texas. The two suspects, Charles Clines-Martinez (age 24) and Jermaine Patrick Spirlark (age 41) face charges of aggravated robbery that occurred in the wee hours of April 30.
