Importance of qualifiers for the WSOP

Qualifying for various events, whether the WSOP or other big buy-in tournaments, is an essential part of the poker landscape. It’s the idea that anyone can win that makes poker so great.

It was back in 1983 when Jack Binion was looking for a way get more low-stakes players into the series that he introduced the satellite tournament. They were popular back then, and they haven’t looked back.

Satellites and other ways to qualify for tournaments help attract new players, build the prize pool and make the tournament more attractive to poker professionals.

According to the WSOP, 1,189 players qualified into bracelet events at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino over the seven weeks of tournament play. Of those, 78 players won a seat into the Main Event.
